One billion euro's for foodstuffs directly from the farm

 

Italians love honest food. According to Coldiretti, the association of Italian farmers, this summer people in Italy have already spent more than 1 billion euro’s for foodstuffs that come directly from the producer.

 

The number of farmers that sells its products directly to the consumer has increased with 48 percent, Coldrietti also said. There are more than 57 thousand of them, mainly in Tuscany, Lombardy, Piemonte, Abbruzo and Sicily.

 

Especially olive oil, wine and cheese are popular for a day out in the countryside, but also a complete lunch or diner at an agriturismo (farm restaurant or holiday farm).
